The Siamese Cat Breed

Siamese Point Colours

The point colours are the colour of the face, ears, tail and feet. Siamese point colours can be Seal, Chocolate, Blue, Lilac, Cinnamon, Fawn, Red, Cream, Apricot or Caramel. The
points can also be Tortie and Tabby (or Lynx)

Siamese Personality

Siamese are a very intelligent, lively, entertaining cat. They can be very demanding and become totally involved in their owner's life. Siamese do not like to be ignored and always have to be the centre of attention. They usually regard themselves as people rather than cats. You will never be bored if you own a Siamese cat.

Siamese have a strong personality and are usually very talkative, often with a loud voice. The Siamese voice is quite legendry and they use it well to communicate with humans.
Their meow has been compared to the cries of a human baby. They enjoy being with people and have a great need for human companionship. Siamese cats are sometimes described as
extroverts. Often they bond strongly to a single person.

The Burmese Cat Breed

The Burmese Appearance

The Burmese is a strong, athletic and elegant short haired cat that carry surprising weight for its size and has often been described as "brick wrapped in silk." It has a
fine, close, even, and glossy coat . Their coats are very short, satin-like in texture, and generally require little grooming other than daily petting. At maturity males are large, the females are more delicate and graceful, and the difference in weight between them may be two or three pounds.

The Burmese is a compactly built cat with a small round head and wide-set eyes which are yellow or golden. A Burmese's tail is tapered. The European Burmese is an elegant yet not so fragile cat. It is medium sized, has good bone structure and muscular development and very expressive eyes. The major difference between these breeds is the colours:

The Burmese cat has several recognised colours in Australia:- Brown, Chocolate, Blue, Lilac, Chocolate tortie, Brown tortie, Blue tortie and Lilac tortie

Burmese Cat Personality

The Burmese is very friendly inquisitive cat with an outgoing, loving nature - this is why Burmese are one of the most popular breeds in Australia. It has been said that the
Burmese are more like dogs than cats in their behaviour. When encouraged from kitten hood, they will fetch. They will greet you at the door when you come home and comfort you
when you are ill or unhappy - they give unconditional love.

The Burmese is an upfront cat, not left out of where it is all happening. It's a participator - alert, curious, intelligent, interfering and gregarious: you cannot ignore it!
When you sit down, the Burmese thinks you are offering him a warm and comfortable bed. When you kneel to weed the garden, the Burmese will use your back as a vantage -point from
which to observe the environment. When you do your daily chores in the house, the Burmese will assume that your shoulder is the best place from where tasks can be assisted.

The Burmese likes to explore the environment. Anything that is mechanical and moves makes a good game for the Burmese. They understand door handles very quickly, and the owners
often have to fit door levers upside down. Height is not deterrent. Very muscular, the Burmese loves to jump on the tops of doors and surprise unwary visitors. Nevertheless,
Burmese do settle down as they grow out of adolescence and they can be trained by saying NO! kindly and firmly, but you need to start early and may need to persist, because the
Burmese are very strong-minded and they effortlessly rule their families.

Even though the Burmese is an ideal breed for families, children and older people - for those who want a less interactive pet, one that will spend all its time in relaxation,
the Burmese is not the right choice. Also, the social nature of the Burmese does mean that they need company - human and feline. Toys cannot replace this company. Therefore it
is important that, when the owner is at work, to buy two Burmese kittens, ideally from the same litter. That way the stress of moving is halved and the cats' temperament is much
more relaxed and loving on long run.

The Tonkinese

Tonkinese Appearance

The look of the Tonkinese also draws many people in. It is a medium between the svelte elegance of the Siamese and the cobby boldness of the Burmese. The mink, although not
unique to the Tonkinese, is certainly an outstanding feature. The incomplete dominance of the Siamese and the Burmese colour gene creates a stunning look, when added to the aqua
marine eyes.

But wait - there's more. The Tonkinese comes in Siamese and Burmese coat types as well. Many Tonk lovers choose a Tonk rather than the Siamese or Burmese because they don't like
the extremes both breeds can become. For example, many kitten buyers choose a colourpoint because they had a Siamese many years ago when they were much rounder in the face. Some
Tonk buyers choose a solid coat type because they don't like the face too short, combined with the stunning green colour that solid coat Tonkinese have. The Tonkinese come in 4
basic colours:- Natural Mink - dark brown, Blue - blue, Chocolate - champagne mink, Lilac - platinum

Tonkinese Personality

The Tonkinese breed has been around in Australia for quite a while. So why is it only now becoming so popular? Firstly, the personality of the Tonkinese is unique. A cat that
will retrieve things for you, run and meet you at the front door when you get home from work, insist on sitting on your lap or the most comfortable position, a cat that not only
gets along with dogs but has them wrapped around their little claws, can be taken for walks on a lead, are all characteristics of a fantastic breed.
When you put all these factors together, you end up with a stunning cat, with a fantastic personality that stands above all others. Why wouldn't they be popular?

The Oriental Cat Breed

Oriental Appearance

From the tip of its nose to the end of its long, whippy tail, the Oriental is a study in sleek design. This elegant cat gracefully glides across the room on its tall, slender
legs. The lines of the Oriental's angular head flow into its large flaring ears, and are complimented by its almond shaped eyes. Don’t be fooled by the svelte, tubular body;
these cats have surprising weight and muscle tone and are neither frail nor fragile.

Oriental Personality

Orientals eagerly greet you at the door and tell you all about their day. If you’re late, they will scold you and tell you how worried they were that you didn't call. Hide their feather on top of the refrigerator? Wrong! Curiosity and intelligence combine, providing Orientals a means of finding anything and everything. They have been known to open a drawer, or empty your purse to discover their favourite toy. Give Orientals the attention and affection they so desperately need, and they will do anything to please you.

These elegant, svelte cats remain playful and loyal well beyond their youth. In the busiest moments, your Oriental will find a way to interrupt your activities; a little nudge while you eat, or some help tying your shoes before you leave in the morning. You’ll need help deciding which items to select from the refrigerator! In the calmest of times they’ll share the warmth of your lap, provide a comforting purr, and nuzzle your chin when you need it the most.
